During the Year of Mercy we will partner with schools in our diocese.
The proposal is to run a competition for schools to make the Year of Mercy both a practical and spiritual experience for pupils and staff. This builds on the charitable projects and activities that are already being done in schools with the aim of supporting and encouraging them.
Bishop Philip has set three objectives for Caritas Diocese of Portsmouth’s project with schools:
• To deepen the understanding of those involved in Catholic Social Teaching
• To promote discussion and theological understanding of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy
• To design a social action project that will enable the school community to take a lead on the practical expression of a corporal work or a spiritual work of mercy (in the autumn term of 2016)
